Portraits of female pilots during the Second World War

The latest of my female pilots trilogy: British ATA (Air Transport Auxiliary) pilot posing on her RAF Spitfire fighter plane. During WWII, male and female pilots worked for the Royal Air Force as conveyer pilots. They flew planes for factories to air fields, transported wounded service men and delivered messages. Women recieved the same pay as men, which was quite rare!

In the USA, the WAFS (Women's Auxiliary Ferrying Squadron), which later merged with WASP (Women Airforce Service Pilots) also served FOR the army, but were not very well treated: they had to pay for their own uniform, did not receive any army pension and at the end of the war, were sent home without any honors. They even had to pay for their journey back.

With this trilogy, I want to pay tribute to all those brave pilots forgotten by History, simply because they are women.
